I always thought of it in a different light, though. The phrase “the grass is greener on the other side” to me always meant that you can get away and be in a better situation. When I heard “the grass is greener where you water it” I was thinking the whole meaning was you don’t just go away and suddenly everything gets better, you have to make things better. Grass doesn’t water itself. This meaning shows much more self worth and is much more inspiring.

I think that’s the main problem with comparing ourselves to others too often – we compare our ‘behind-the-scenes’ to their highlight reels, and then the only reason we become unhappy is because we think we should be.

Focusing on improving our own lives leaves no time to look at others!
