The history of printed publications began quite some time ago. Scrolls began appearing in the Roman Forum, the Eternal City's center, in 59 B.C. to report on political events, military campaigns, lawsuits, scandals, and executions. Under Julius Caesar, regular reports from the authorities were published, titled “The Daily Affairs of the Roman People” (“Acta diurna populi Romani”). They were placed in public squares, and politicians and nobles had them delivered to their homes. These publications were made by hand, with dozens of scribes writing the text on wooden boards. “Affairs” covered current events in the Senate and court proceedings. It also described trips to distant lands, news from the theater, and gladiatorial fights, according to those who had recently arrived in Rome.<\/p>\n\n\n
