I am a professional natural hair stylist. I recommend a ceramic or nano titanium iron with heat settings since doing her own hair is new to her. Start at 375 and work your way up depending on texture. Do not allow her to flat iron her hair more than once a week. 2 tops! She should see a professional hair stylist who specializes in healthy natural hair. If her curls/coils are tight research a stylist who does great “Silk Press” services. She should also have her ends trimmed every 6-8 weeks. Especially if she wants to wear it straight. Best of luck to you both!

Thank you for this information! My question is this: I’ve really worked on teaching my daughter to love her hair au natural. We straighten it once in a blue moon because she begs. I don’t want to ruin her hair! She’s turning 12 and I want to surprise her with a good straightener. We use protection spray. How often is it safe for her hair? I was thinking once a month but I don’t have the same hair as her so I need advice!
